2020 Vocabulary

2020 has been a year of expanding vocabulary. Between pandemics, fires and prairie hurricanes, there’s a lot of new words we learned this year! Here are a few new ones from 2020 with a hint of satire that will hopefully make you laugh today.

Unprecedented: the official word to explain 2020. I think it’s safe to say we’re all ready for “precedented” times.

Corona: Obviously, the given name of the COVID-19 virus, not to be confused with Corona beers. When the next big pandemic occurs, hopefully they pick a name like Schlitz or PBR instead.

Derecho: A hurricane in the prairie. Not even an encyclopedia knew this word before 2020, but leave it to Iowa to say “hold my Corona”. Praying for all the farmers and friends across the state whose communities were damaged in the storm. Iowans will persevere.

Neptune: the name of the new building Iowa Wealth Management will occupy when we move on October 23rd! We can’t wait to see you in our new space, post pandemic.
